Special Sessions

  • OPENING CONCERT BY HILARITER
    Directed by Dr. Andrew Donaldson
, Hilariter is an inter-denominational group of singers and players committed to diversity in worship and to exploring worship resources available from around the world. For performers, worshippers and listeners, Hilariter sees these musical gifts, their offering and reception, as a form of mission.

  • KEYNOTE: Songs and Stories of our Faith / Dawes
Songs of joy and lament. Stories of triumph and tragedy. Church music is not itself a faith, yet both its musicians and the choristers and congregants to whom they minister live stories which bear similarity to those in the Bible.

  • THE ORGAN IN NEW WORSHIP / Wright
On the night of the 20th Final Round of the Osborne Organ Competition Patricia Wright and friends show why the church needs the talented young artists who pursue church music via the King of Instruments, and shows what organists are even now bringing to new worship.

  • ARE WE OFF KEY? / Panel Discussion
Little respect, poor compensation, no support or training… is music a ministry, or marketing? The United Church of Canada reunites 14 musicians from across Canada that shared a three-day conversation about music, musicians and ministry at SICM 39 to share drafts of a new theological statement about music and ministry, and a draft of Singing Faith Alive!, its new resource document for congregations.

  • “TEEMING” WORSHIP / Dolloff & Dolloff
The teaming of minister to organist is a vital one to healthy and fulfilling worship that teems with inspiration, energy and transforming beauty. At SICM 2008 we take a unique opportunity to learn about the challenges and rewards, the humour and drama, through the eyes of wife and husband.
