In a profession characterized by long hours of solo work, SICM brings church musicians together with old friends and new - to talk through and work out the exhaustion and frustrations of the past season, and re-equip both mentally and spiritually for the season to come. 

It also operates a vital Chaplaincy to church musicians, through daily worship and the provision of a Chaplain whose public preaching and private counsel seek to refresh and reopen minds and hearts to God’s glory and the sacred mission of those he calls into musical service.

Warm summer temperatures make the pool an ideal and fun meeting place. Trafalgar Castle School has many excellent facilities for students during Institute week.

Fun Night, an annual Institute highlight created (somehow!) every year by students and faculty lets a sometimes “staid” sector of the population wear a bit of a different face!

Talents and friendships are in the spotlight as the Summer Institute of Church Music lets down its hair and pokes a bit of affectionate fun at itself and the world it serves.
